About Chris

Born and raised in New England, I’ve been painting since my teens in the mid 80’s (thank you Bob Ross) and have explored many mediums including oils, acrylics and watercolors (does Testors paints on model cars count as well?).

After a pivot to graphic and web design in the late 90’s (skills I’ve used at many jobs all the way thru to today) I haven’t painted regularly very much in the past 20 years or so.

That is until summer of 2019 when I purchased my first Apple iPad Pro along with the Apple Pencil. That changed everything.

I’ve been blown away with how the iPad has rekindled my love of painting again. So much so that in late 2020, I started painting with oils again as well.

Even though I still love to “paint” on my iPad (I can grab it anytime and anywhere and just start painting), I still have this feeling of “cheating” whenever I do it. If I make a mistake, I simply two-finger tap and it’s gone. Need to match a color? Simply press and hold on your reference image and, bam, you get the exact color.

Don’t get me wrong, I believe everything is legitimate art, no matter what medium is used. But I truly feel more “connected” to my art when I paint with a physical medium. And, again, if it wasn’t for the iPad, I wouldn’t be back painting in oils today.

Although most of the digital art from my iPad is mainly focused on my other passion of German automobiles, my rekindled love of oil painting subjects are much more varied. I love painting anything from landscapes to still lifes to figure studies (please bare with me as I continue to add more work to the paintings gallery).

I will continue to add new paintings as I finish them so please follow me on Instagram @ChrisNeumanArt to see what I’m currently working on.
