Ayrton Senna 1988 Monaco GP Painting
About 6 years ago I started getting into Formula 1. I love automotive racing, but, being an American, I never got into NASCAR or even Indy Car, even though I grew up about 8 miles away from a major motor speedway (New Hampshire Motor Speedway).
After the past few years of learning the tracks, teams and drivers, I decided to start diving into the long history of F1. And what a colorful history it is! I’ve already watched numerous documentaries, and one of my favorites, and most tragic, was Senna.
So in tribute, I’ve decided to take a short break from Porsche’s and create a digital painting of a cool image of Senna in his McLaren MP4/4 at the 1988 Monaco GP. Unfortunately this image is everywhere on the internet and I wasn’t able to find who the photographer was so I don’t know who to give credit to. If anyone knows, please let me know.
This is my first painting with a full background compared to the solid colors of my first few paintings. I had to laugh after working over an hour on perfecting the front crash barrier, only to have to put a motion blur on it, which pretty much wiped out all the detail I put into it. Oh well. So knowing that, the crash barrier in the background was created much quicker.
If you’re interested in a print of this painting, I’m offering a limited run of 50 signed prints in my shop. The prints are 19”x13” (48cmx33cm) and are printed on archival grade, 60lb, 229gsm Polar Matte paper by Red River Paper using Canon ChromaLife 100+ inks.
