Porsche 917K Painting

Welcome to my second completed digital painting, a Porsche 917K in classic Gulf oil livery.

This was an odd choice for my second ever digital painting. The intricate details of all the exposed parts to the right of the tire made this one of the longest paintings to complete for me. About 2 weeks.

I paint to increase my skills and this painting helped push my skills and discover new techniques that will dramatically increase the efficiency of my painting moving forward. I have a goal of being able to release a new painting every week.

I’ve always loved the light blue and orange livery of the Gulf racing cars and the Porsche 917K is one of the most famous. I had to paint it.

I’m not quite sure who to give the reference image credit to, because this image is everywhere on the web and Instagram. The really only difference between my painting and the reference image was the tread pattern on the tire. That pattern would have probably taken me a week just to paint by itself so I decide to switch the tires to slicks.

If you’re interested in a print of this painting, I’m offering a limited run of 50 signed prints in my shop. The prints are 19”x13” (48cmx33cm) and are printed on archival grade, 60lb, 229gsm Polar Matte paper by Red River Paper using Canon ChromaLife 100+ inks.
